One of the main causes of premature aging of the skin is exposure to sunlight, which subjects the skin to UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays penetrate deep into the skin and can damage collagen and elastin fibers, which are essential components of healthy younger looking skin. UVB rays affect the outer layer of the skin and are the main causes of sunburn. UV rays create free radicals, which are unstable oxygen molecules that have one electron instead of two. The skin will try to repair most of the damage caused but the cells aren’t always repaired perfectly. It is very important to use sunscreen on a daily basis. A physical sunscreen is what we recommend. Physical sunscreens will block both UVA and UVB rays.
